The purpose of this workshop is to help participants identify their personal ethics and values and learn how emotions can interfere with a therapist’s willingness to act ethically.  Case examples will be presented which highlight the emotional discomfort inherent in many decision-making situations.  Participants are encouraged to share their own ethical dilemmas.

ABOUT PRESENTERS:

Linda K. Knauss, Ph.D., ABPP is a Professor at Widener University’s Institute for Graduate Clinical Psychology.  She is the past Chair of the American Psychological Association’s Ethics Committee, past Chair of the Pennsylvania Psychological Association‘s Ethics Committee, and has served as Co-chair of the Philadelphia Society of Clinical Psychologists' Ethics Committee.  Dr. Knauss is also a member of the Ethics Committee of the American Board of Professional Psychology.  Dr. Knauss taught courses in ethics at Widener University, Immaculata University, and the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.  She has authored several book chapters and journal articles on ethics, and has taught many continuing education workshops on a variety of ethical issues.  In addition to her work at Widener University, Dr. Knauss maintains a private clinical practice where she sees children, adolescents, adults, and families.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to:identify and understand personal ethics and values

  • assess normalizing emotional discomfort in clinical practice
  • apply emotions and values into the practice of psychotherapy in order to truly practice ethically

CE CREDITS:

This session is co-sponsored by the Philadelphia Society of Clinical Psychologists (PSCP) and Specialists of Schools.  PSCP is approved by the American Psychological Association to offer Continuing Education (CE) for psychologists.  PSCP maintains responsibility for the program and its content.  This program provides 3 hours of CE Ethics credits for Licensed Psychologists, Social Workers. Licensed Professional Counselors, and Marriage and Family Therapist.

FEES:

This workshop is free for members of SOS, PSCP, and staff at the host school. There is a $50.00 admission fee for others. CE credits and Act 48 credits are $45.00 each. Payment must be made online via credit card at the time of registration (choose "Pay by Credit Card" option during checkout), or by check or money order made out to SOS (choose the "Pay by Check/Money Order" option during checkout).
